The closest living relative of the tiger, this iconic big cat has fascinated explorers and photographers for generations. Our expedition takes you deep into the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, one of the most striking regions of the Indian Himalayas, to track and photograph this rare predator in its frozen habitat. The Snow Leopard Expedition offers a rare opportunity to observe and photograph one of the world’s most elusive big cats in its natural Himalayan habitat. The experience also includes encounters with other high-altitude wildlife, spectacular mountain scenery, and insights into the unique culture of Spiti Valley.

The expedition takes place at high altitudes (over 12,000 ft), so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Days involve moderate trekking or drives over rugged terrain in cold temperatures. Acclimatization days and slow-paced exploration ensure participant comfort and safety.

Apart from the Snow Leopard, you may encounter Himalayan blue sheep (bharal), red foxes, ibex, woolly hares, golden eagles, lammergeiers, and other high-altitude birds and mammals adapted to the Trans-Himalayan ecosystem.

Snow Leopards are extremely elusive, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, our expert trackers and local spotters maximize the chances through intensive scanning of known leopard territories using scopes and binoculars.

Accommodation will be in comfortable homestays or lodges in Kibber village, offering basic but warm rooms with local hospitality. Rooms are equipped with heating arrangements and essential amenities suited for cold mountain conditions.

During the expedition season (February–March), daytime temperatures range between -12°C to -5°C, while nights can drop to -30°C. Warm layered clothing, gloves, caps, and insulated boots are essential.

Yes, beginners are welcome. Our mentors and field experts guide participants on both tracking and photographing wildlife in extreme environments. You’ll also receive advice on handling gear in cold conditions.
